National initiative for proficiency in reading with understanding and numeracy
In PM SHRI KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA AFS SULUR
KVS schools will be developed as model schools for attainment of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy by all students by the end of Grade 3, in mission mode.
In order to facilitate this, our school has introduced competency-based education at primary level and adoption of learning outcome metrics as developed by the CBSE and NCERT.
Thus all efforts are made to ensure that all the children attain Foundational Literacy and Numeracy by 2026-27 through robust monitoring mechanism to track the progress of each child.
In line with what NEP 2020 recommends, the INITIATIVE will
- Help children read with comprehension.
- Use play and activity-based Pedagogy.
- Teach in children’s home language to some extent.
- Provide high-quality teaching learning materials to engage children.
- Build capacities of teachers, Academic Resource Persons.
- Track Children’s Learning levels consistently. ( as ORF was tested through TARA app)
- Conduct meaningful assessments using polls, quizzes, games etc.
As it is well known among educators “CHILDREN WHO FALL BEHIND, ARE LEFT BEHIND”, no teacher would prefer and decide to leave a child behind. So in all sincerity and earnestness NIPUN is being implemented in classes 1 and 2 for, GRADE 3 IS THE INFLECTION POINT BY WHICH CHILDREN ARE EXPECTED TO “learn to read” so that they can “read to learn” after that.
To achieve what NIPUN aims at, there should be a primary shift towards COMPETENCY BASED LEARNING as
- Explicit and measurable learning outcomes are defined which are the pathways for competency acquisition.
- The pedagogy is based on activities, experiences, integration of arts/sports/ technology, etc. and connecting the learnings to real-life situations, so that child learns to apply knowledge.
- Primarily formative assessment is used, and skills or concepts are assessed in multiple contexts to ensure that both deep understanding and applications are acquired by children.
And result in achieving the following at an early age.
- Decision making skill
- Organizing skill
- Communicating skills
- Encouraging curiosity
In all, implementing NIPUN will achieve what NEP 2020 requires
Our highest priority must be to achieve universal foundational literacy and numeracy by the end of grade 3 by 2026-27.
